Amadeo Fuenmayor, researcher at EvalPub, participated on 14 March in the conference: "Sanitation tax, an example of green taxation for the future", organised by the Public Water Sanitation Entity of the Valencian Community (EPSAR).

The day was divided into two activities: a colloquium with Javier Ruiz, director of Economy of the SER radio station, and a round table on Green Taxation. In addition, the day was attended by the Vice-President of the Consell and Councillor for Equality and Inclusive Policies, Aitana Mas, and the Councillor for Agriculture, Rural Development, Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition, Isaura Navarro.

Amadeo Fuenmayor’s presentation dealt with the importance of taxation and the relationship between taxation and public services. In his presentation, Amadeo discussed the main characteristics of the tax system, as well as the connection existing in many taxes between obtaining revenue and spending. Among these figures, he highlighted taxes, special contributions and the so-called earmarked taxes. One example given was the sanitation tax established by EPSAR, the amount of which depends on the volume of water consumed, which in turn is directly related to the public service involved, water treatment.

Within the group of existing taxes in Spain, Amadeo highlighted the environmental taxes, which, by design, generate an incentive to change the behaviour of citizens that benefits the environment. Within this field, Amadeo spoke about the case of the tax on hydrocarbons and the three environmental taxes recently established in the Valencian Community: the tax on CO2 emissions from motor vehicles, the tax on greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere and the tax on large commercial establishments.
