Tourist holiday tax under debate

On Thursday 2 June, a workshop will be held on the tourist stay tax, with the aim of presenting the economic effect of this tax, as well as generating debate around it.

The presentation day starts on Thursday 2 June at 9:00 a.m. in the Sánchez Ayuso Hall of the Faculty of Economics (first floor). The opening will be given by Francisco Muñoz Murgui, Dean of the Faculty of Economics; Rafael Beneyto Cabanes, Director General of Taxes and Gambling of the Generalitat Valenciana; and Amadeo Fuenmayor Fernández, Director of the Regional Taxation Chair.

This will be followed by a round table discussion with Marta Espasa Queralt, Secretary of Finance of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Xisco Oliver Rullán, Director General of Finance of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Borja J. Sanjuán Roca, Councillor of Finance of the Valencia City Council and Ferran Martínez Ruiz, Member of the Valencian Parliament for Unides Podem.

The second part of the workshop will consist of three presentations. The first of these will be given by José María Durán Cabré, from the University of Barcelona, who will address the review of the taxation of tourist activities. Xisco Oliver Rullán, from the University of the Balearic Islands, will focus on the impact of the tourist tax on demand. The last paper, by Asensi Descalç i Tormo and José Ramón Ruiz Tamarit, from the University of Valencia, will reflect on the application of the tourist tax.

Finally, the workshop will be brought to a close by Francesc Gamero i Lluna, Regional Secretary of Finance of the Generalitat Valenciana.
