Introductory course in Public Policy Evaluation

Next December, the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) will offer a course on Public Policy Evaluation. This course aims to provide students with the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to understand, analyse and evaluate public policies, as well as to promote informed decision-making and the continuous improvement of these policies.

The course is directed by Mauro Mediavilla, with Gisela Rusteholz as secretary, both researchers at EvalPub.

MONDAY 2 DECEMBER

1. Introduction to the evaluation of public policies: motivation, conceptual introduction, objectives and limitations.
2. Types of evaluation: needs, design, implementation, impact and economic. Case studies.
3. Planning for a correct evaluation of public policies.

TUESDAY 3 DECEMBER

9h-14h

4. Qualitative evaluation: main characteristics. Case studies.

15:30h-20:30h

5. Quantitative Evaluation: main characteristics. Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Approaches: Matching; Differences in Differences; Regressions in Discontinuity and Structural Equations. Practical cases.

WEDNESDAY 4 DECEMBER

6. Institutionalisation of evaluation in Spain: comparative view and challenges for the future.
7. Final joint reflection.
