The study by Rusteholz, Mediavilla and Pires (2023) focuses on identifying the effect of bullying on the academic performance of 4th ESO students in schools in the Community of Madrid.

The novelty of this study is that it carries out (1) a prevalence study of the phenomenon with census data from the Community and with two informants, the teacher and the principal, (2) a quantitative estimate of the linear association between bullying and academic performance, (3) an estimate of the probability of seeing reduced performance in environments where the problem is more prevalent, and (4) a quantile analysis according to the academic level of the students, which shows that the effect is different for each competence. In addition, the study makes visible the magnitude of the consequences that bullying can have on achievement.
