Amadeo Fuenmayor, researcher at EvalPub and director of the Regional Taxation Chair, participated as moderator in a session of the Forum on 6 March.

The round table moderated by Amadeo, entitled “Towards a fair and equitable financing that supports the productive system” included the participation of three speakers: Ruth Merino, Regional Minister of Economy, Finance and Public Administration of the Generalitat Valenciana; Salvador Navarro, President of the Business Confederation of the Valencian Community; and Francisco Pérez, Director of Research at the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (IVIE).

The members of the round table discussed the current situation of the regional funding system and the existing problems regarding the underfunding suffered by the Valencian Community compared to the rest of the Spanish regions. As a result of this lack of resources and the debt that the regional government has had to resort to in order to finance essential public services, the Regional Minister stressed that there is “very little margin” for productive policies that strengthen and promote the productive fabric of the Valencian Community.

The speakers also stressed the need for a fair and equitable reform of the regional funding system, so that the effective funding per inhabitant of the Valencian Region can be brought into line with that of the rest of the autonomous regions under the common system.
