Abstract:

Traditionally, the financing of old people’s homes in Spain has been carried out through two mechanisms: the direct provision of public centres and subsidies to private and third sector centres. In 1996, the Valencian Community decided to incorporate a new financing instrument, called bono-residencia, which had not been used in Spain until now. The main purpose of this article is to find out whether the introduction of this instrument has helped to increase and improve employment conditions in this sector.
